Republic, North Caucasus, Zagedan Mountains)
The cave has a depth 900m and a length 3 000m.
The cave is the deepest in Russia. It is located
at 2 825m altitude. There are two sumps at
839 and 900m depth, two main branches, narrow
passages. The cave was sought in 1994 and
explored mainly by the cavers from Rostov-on-Don,

The
Kanyon-Samohvat expedition. Air flow and temperature
regime (Abkhazian Republic, Bzybsky range).
The Kanyon-Samohvat system is supposed to
be a low entrance in the famous Snezhnaya
(Snow) cave. A current of the air is out/in
of the cave in summer/winter in the main passages.
There is more complex situation with air flow
in side branches. Series of temperature measurements
were made. They do not contradict the possibility
of the connection between the system and Snow
cave. The progress along the passage was made.
Unfortunately the cavers were robbed by four
gangsters with submachine guns on going out
of the cave. (photo) |
